Using storytelling to boost your nonprofit’s communications [online workshop]
Do you work in a capacity-building or grant-making organization? Are you responsible for helping to build the communications capacity of the nonprofits in your network?
I’ve designed a storytelling workshop that you can offer to a group of nonprofit professionals whom you’d like to support through training.
Help members of your network with strategic storytelling
This online workshop is for participants who are new to, or struggling with, storytelling. It’s for those who want to get started in a way that:
- Makes the most of the time they spend crafting stories
- Reduces the feeling of overwhelm
Rather than a new, separate tactic, we’ll talk about leveraging storytelling within an existing marketing communications mix – using stories to boosts the quality and impact of the content nonprofit organizations already need to create.
Participants will learn about the benefits of storytelling – from building empathy and forming connections, to altering brain chemistry in a way that makes people more likely to take action. The core topics of the workshop will include:
- Examples: WHY, HOW and WHERE nonprofit communicators are sharing their stories
- Strategic ways to brainstorm more story ideas than participants will ever need
- How resource-strapped organizations can sift through, select and prioritize story ideas and opportunities in a focused and strategic way
- The steps involved in writing stories that support an organization’s mission and goals
Participants will be invited to share insights, experiences and questions and will start to work through the workshop exercises and materials during our time together. They will leave the training ready to make a roadmap for telling strategically-selected stories, understanding how they are going to use storytelling, and which stories they will share.

This is an online (video-based) interactive workshop. You’ll book the training with me and invite members of your network to join in via a Zoom call that I’ll set that up for you. I will facilitate the two-hour workshop, which consists of a mix of presentation, exercises and discussion.
Group size: I recommend a minimum of four participants and limit registration to a total of 12 participants.
Workshop fee: $595 (includes up to 12 participants)
**In-person workshop option in Toronto: I also offer this training as an in-person workshop for a fee of $995. This option is for organizations who would like to host this training in Toronto and can provide the venue.
