How supported do you feel in your work? Are you the lone communicator at your organization? Are you connected to a group of people doing marketing and communications in nonprofit organizations?
If you don’t already have a peer group in place (and even if you do) I want to make sure you know about a few online networking opportunities.
Three online groups for nonprofit marketing communications pros
1. #NPMC Twitter chat
#NPMC chat is a monthly chat on Twitter for the nonprofit marketing communications community. It takes place on the last Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. ET (there are a few exceptions – check the #NPMC chat page for details). To participate in the conversation, just follow the #NPMC hashtag on Twitter and add it to your own tweets.
I started this chat in 2013 and it has evolved into a strong, supportive and welcoming community. If you’ve never participated before (and if you have), I hope to see you at the next chat.
2. Marketing & PR Professionals in Not-for-Profit LinkedIn group
If LinkedIn is more your style, you can join our group of almost 9,000 of your nonprofit marcom peers. Please pop over to ask or answer a question and make a new connection!
I started this group WAY back in 2009 and I have to admit that the bigger it gets, the quieter it gets. LinkedIn has made some changes and I know I can do better at group facilitation.
So tell me in the comments below: what could be better about this LinkedIn group? What do you like most about your favourite LinkedIn groups? Is LinkedIn the place where you want to do your online networking?
3. Nonprofit Communications Pros Facebook group
Finally, if Facebook is your preferred spot for connecting with peers, definitely check out the Nonprofit Communications Professionals Group from Caroline Avakian & Nancy Schwartz.
I’m sure there are many other options – what am I missing? How do you connect with your peers in the space? Please share in the comments!
If you feel like you’ve been going it alone, there is no need! Your community is online, waiting to help you.
Nonprofit communicators unite! 🙂
